Still serving delicious food at the King Buffet and Mongolian Grill in Yankton.

The last year has made us miss some things. Things we maybe took for granted. For myself this was concerts and restaurants. Not knowing if either would really exist. But looking into it now, things are slowly turning around. And concerts and restaurants are returning. And hopefully sticking around. Today though, I would like to talk about the return of some of my favorite restaurants. And what it looks like.

The good news? They are just like I remember them. With amazing food, and a good selection of it. And we all know they could use our support in order to stay around and keep offering us amazing food.

Some of my favorite restaurants are buffets. This is mainly because I love eating a variety. And these were the restaurants I was afraid may suffer the most. A lot of them are back. And serving the variety I love. Even though South Dakota didn’t shut down, it was the wishes of a lot of city ordinances and local decisions to shut down a lot of these places. Some of them had to shut completely. Others just had to change up their approach. In general though, these businesses were hurt.

Still loving the Pizza Ranch chicken. And pizza.

So are there some changes now that they have reopened? Of course. And all the different businesses will have different rules. And things they want you to do to keep them safe and their customers. With a lot of ordinances expiring, these are things the individual businesses decided to do. Gloves and masks are still required at some of these places. This may upset a few people. But I guess I look at this as the business trying to do what they feel is right for their safety and their customers. And should be respected. This is the equivalent of someone coming to your house and not taking their shoes off, when that is your preference. It’s not meant to take away your rights of wearing shoes. The same should be said when you go into a business. And if you don’t like taking off your shoes, you probably won’t visit that persons house.

JoDean’s is a Yankton tradition. With some really good food.

At the end of the day, it is good to see things slowly getting back to the way they were. With more people getting vaccines, and the numbers slowly going down, it does feel like we may be able to breath a little bit. And hopefully someday things go back to normal. But somethings may never go back. And that may be OK too. The gloves I personally think is an amazing idea for more reasons than the obvious. Before all of the craziness came about, I went to one of my favorite restaurants. As I stood in line I watched a little girl putting food on her plate. Then I noticed she had three different kinds of food on her hand. She couldn’t reach so she grabbed the bottom of the handle on the spoons. Even though I offered to help her, she was positive she could do it herself. As I watched her do it again.

So yes. Sometimes change can be good.

Until next time.
