I’m not sure how long ago it was when I walked into a convenience store and first seen them. Crammed between all the other chip options, there was a new bag of chips. Under closer inspection I could see printed across the side of the bag read “Industrial Strength”. What in the world does that mean? I was hoping it was a good thing. Of course I had to try it. Especially since it was an odd flavor. Salt and vinegar. I had a feeling this was either going to be really good, or really bad. I was right. It was amazing. A rich deep crunch. Amazing flavor that made my mouth water after every bite. And to my amazement, they were located in South Dakota. These quickly became my favorite chips to eat. And still are. And it wasn’t just the salt and vinegar ones. The original, Mesquite, and jalapeno chips are just as good.

In 1985 a couple from Clark, South Dakota wanted to try to find a way to get rid of more of the their potato crop from their farm. So Bob and Betty Campbell started experimenting with flavors in there kitchen. And grew this into a business with their sons until 1998. It is now owned by Kevin Dandurand. In 2006 Dakota Style started working it’s way into sunflower seeds as well. This started expanding them into other states.

But on February 21, 2016, tragedy struck. The factory burnt down. Salvaging what they could from the fire. As well as help from the community and the very dedicated workers. Dakota Style wasn’t going to be gone for good.

You can find their amazing chips and seeds all over South Dakota. And I have yet to be disappointed. They more recently have pushed their way into flavored pretzels as well. And the reviews on these have been nothing, but great as well.

Overall, Dakota brand is a home grown company that has started and stayed in South Dakota by choice. They take pride in their product. And they take pride in being a part of South Dakota. And with their incredible product line, it should be an easy choice to make.

I do my best to support all local South Dakota businesses when I can. But when they taste this good, it really does make it easy. To learn more about Dakota Style or see more of their products, click here.
