We all know all of the great things that come from South Dakota. From our beauty and scenery. To the amazing people that make it up. One of the things that does seem to be over looked though is some of the incredible products the state offers. So I’m going to start a new weekly article featuring just a few of these. One of them that is legendary is Rushmore Mountain Taffy.
Located in Keystone their taffy is made fresh daily. And is almost a must stop if you are visiting the Black Hills or Mount Rushmore area. Originally opened in 1967, this little store is owned and run by Jeff Stverak and his sister.
Using a recipe that’s been handed down from generations, these wonderful chewy morsels truly have to be tasted to be believed. Using a 130 year old machine to pull and work the taffy. It’s quite obvious that a lot of tradition and dedication is put into their candy. This comes through with the taste. Featuring thirty seven different flavor choices. As well as 12 different sugarless choices. There is probably going to be a flavor you like. My personal favorite and recommendation is the strawberry cheesecake. So good.
And it wouldn’t take you long to find someone who can tell you their experience with Rushmore Mountain Taffy. Words used to describe it are incredible, amazing, and best taffy ever. Even people that aren’t normally into sweets and taffy can’t resist these little buggers.
And even though they may specialize in these wonderful taffy, they also have other wonderful treats. Such as peanut brittle, fudge, and caramels. They even have their own syrups and salad dressings. For a full list click here to check out their website.
South Dakota truly has some incredible products. And I hope to explore as many as possible. But I would love to hear from you. Have you ever had Rushmore Mountain Taffy? What was your favorite kind? What other South Dakota products would you like to hear about?
Until next time.
